Atelier Jiyu is a tattoo studio with artists who are passionate about creating unique and beautiful tattoos. We believe that getting a tattoo is an expression of your personal style and individuality. Our studio is a welcoming environment where you can be comfortable and confident that you will receive the highest quality service - this is why we do care about aftercare.

Understanding Tattoo Aftercare

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully, lasts a lifetime, and most importantly — prevents infection or poor healing. Every tattoo is unique, and so is the healing process. Each of our artists may follow their own specific aftercare method depending on the tattoo’s style, size, placement, and your skin type.
Some artists use pads or protective wraps, others may apply plastic film or recommend specialized products. Different healing techniques may also be used for different tattoo styles. Before you leave the studio, your artist will explain the aftercare steps best suited for your tattoo and answer any questions you may have. Following these instructions closely ensures the best results.

Universal Aftercare Rules (First 2–4 Weeks)

  • Universal Aftercare Rules (First 2–4 Weeks)
  • Regardless of the method, these core rules apply during the initial healing phase:
  • Avoid direct sunlight — keep your tattoo protected and skip tanning beds.
  • Avoid soaking — no swimming, baths, or hot tubs; showers are fine.
  • Avoid saunas and steam rooms — heat and moisture can affect healing.
  • Avoid heavy sweating — allow your skin time to recover before intense workouts.
  • Keep it clean and don’t pick or scratch — let your skin heal naturally.

Detailed General Aftercare Instructions

Follow these steps for optimal healing:

  • Clean hands: Wash hands before touching your tattoo to prevent bacteria.
  • Gentle washing: Use cold water and mild, fragrance-free soap once or twice a day. Avoid scrubbing — just use your fingertips.
  • Dry carefully: Pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel; don’t rub.
  • Apply recommended products: Use only ointments or creams suggested by your artist. Apply thin layers to avoid suffocating the skin.
  • Clothing: Wear loose, clean clothing to avoid friction or irritation.
  • Peeling and scabbing: Light peeling and scabbing are normal. Do not pick at the skin; let it flake naturally.
  • Pets: Keep pets away from fresh tattoos — hair, saliva, or scratches can cause infection.
  • Avoid external products: Don’t apply makeup, sunscreen, or lotion unless advised.
  • Listen to your body: If you notice excessive redness, swelling, pain, unusual discharge, or anything unusual, contact your artist immediately.

Remember: A fresh tattoo is essentially a wound — proper care ensures it heals beautifully and lasts a lifetime.
